New for 2007 is a book of two halves – one half is a mix of brand new poems and the second half is a selection of poems from some of David's earliest, and now out-of-print books. The poem below is from the 'new' half. Anne Hodgkiss has produced fresh illustrations for the 'newies' and we've kept the original artwork for the 'oldies'. David and Anne hope you like the poems chosen and they're very sorry if they've missed a poem you especially wanted back in print…

Interesting Book Fact : The book's title is what's called a spoonerism. It's where the first sounds of two words get swapped. There once was a Reverend Spooner who was always doing it – by mistake in his case! So you get examples like, Kinquering Congs for Conquering Kings and a well boiled icicle for a well oiled bicycle.

Uh Oh

uh oh

I know a man who got so cross,
he turned into tomato sauce.

I know a man who blew his top
and turned into a lollipop.

I know a man in such a stew,
he turned into a tube of glue.

I know a man who went bananas
and turned into his own pyjamas.

I know a man who lost his temper -
turned into the fifth of November.

I know a man who stamped his foot,
then turned into a jacket spud.

I know a man who went so spare,
he turned into a polar bear.

I know a man with his knickers in a twist,
who turned into a shopping list.

I know a man so hopping mad
and he turned out to be…my dad.
