Summer
2005, it must be time for another book. This time we all liked the cover
so much we decided we wouldn't hide any of it with titles and names. You
know who we are and if you want to know the title, just open the book!
Interesting Book fact 1: The original cover image is a photo
taken by Ben Horner in Ben and David's favourite Indian restaurant:
The Javed
Tandoori in Warrington. Part of the restaurant was once a butcher's
shop and the restaurant owner has kept the original decorative wall
tiles of cows. Needless to say, Anne and David's heads do not appear on
the originals!
Interesting Book Fact 2: David remembers his Mum teaching him the
spelling of Mississippi as in the poem of that name and wrote it
in her memory.
THE BALLAD OF BARRY AND BERYL

Beryl and Barry were both born in
Bury.
Bury is where they were both born and bred,
till Beryl’s whole family moved house to Burnley,
while both Barry’s parents chose Blackburn instead.
But Barry and Blackburn, they couldn’t last long,
and Beryl in Burnley was bewildered why,
when Bury was where the pair felt they belonged,
they didn’t to Burnley and Blackburn say, ‘Bye.’
‘Bury,’ said Beryl, ‘is the borough for us.’
‘Not Bolton,’ said Barry, ‘or Bamber Bridge.
Let’s both hurry home on the next Bury bus.’
‘And once back,’ said Beryl, ‘I know we’ll not budge.’
So back to Bury the pair of them scurried.
Asked Barry of Beryl, ‘Will you marry me?’
So Bury in February saw the pair married;
they honeymooned there in a snug b’n’b.
Now Barry and Beryl have four bonny babies,
Billy and Bessie, Belinda and Brett.
And Beryl and Barry, what they both say is,
‘Buried in Bury we’ll be – but not yet.’ [Home]
